Those of you that are interested in youth athletic development, might be interested in the Journal of Science in Sport and Exercise, “Youth and Exercise: Training Young Athletes” edition. It is open access and has 10 articles in it ranging from aerobic and anaerobic fitness to more qualitative coach-oriented articles.
Aaron Uthoff and I wrote an article on backward sled towing in this edition, that might pique your interest. Backward walking and running provide a myriad of benefits to the way you move. As an example, in another post I'll share a Research Byte with you where a backward sprint training intervention produced better acceleration-speed results than a forward sprint training intervention. The article in this journal helped us understand the nuances of backward sled towing in relation to forward sled towing in terms of the load-velocity relationship. This understanding provided the backbone to the aforementioned training study.
