Smashing those PB's with Wearables

WEARABLE RESISTANCE

True story. A colleague of mine, had a passion for long distance Ironman, you know the 4 km swim, 180 km bike and finish off with a marathon. He was a 9 hour 30 man so he was fairly good. Well he would start his training about 4 months out from the event. Invariably as his volume of training increased, he would begin shedding weight, and over the 4 months he would lose something to the order of 7kg in body weight. This particular year he decided to use the wearable resistance shorts and vest and, as he lost weight, he attached weights to the garments to replace the weight loss, so he was always training at the same absolute weight. Two weeks out from the actual event he was running and biking with an additional 7kg of mass. The week prior to the event he stripped the wearable resistance off and went into the Ironman seven kgs lighter. He smashed his PB by 9 minutes. I thought that was smart training.
