PIRR- Programming

TRAINING INSIGHTS

One of the most obvious areas we should be using PIRR is within our programming. Have a reflection on how your programming has evolved over the years – I am sure there has been a great deal of planning, implementing, reviewing and refining.

Four areas how my programming adapted over the years, I share with you now.

  • Density/Intensity – getting more into a 45-60 minute session with tri-sets and quad-sets.
  • Variability – related to the above by off-setting agonist-antagonist training, lower-upper body training, integrating rehab and pre-hab, strength-power combinations, integrated and dedicated core work, etc.
  • Efficiency/Utility – tri-sets and quad sets built around an athlete’s owning a space or piece of equipment for a block of exercises.  This was really important when training in public gyms or high occupancy training settings i.e. workouts became long or exercises were dropped.
  • Acuity – around what is needed for high performance and how to get this from your athletes.

I would be interested in how your programming has changed with time?
