A colleague of mine, Lesley Ferkins shared this acronym with me a few years back. It actually crystallised a process that I was already using, but it also helped me do things better. So what does PIRR stand for.
P - Plan
I -Implement
R – Review
R – Refine
This process is circular and I am sure you are all engaged in it to some degree. PIRR serves us well whether we are setting strategic directions for organisations or programming for our sporting teams. For many PIRR happens naturally, others we have to work at it. Some of us plan and implement well, but really haven’t given time or due process to reviewing and refining what we do. How is your PIRR-ability? How often do you review yourself, your coaching, your staff, your athletes, your program, your organisation and refine what you do?
What I’d like to do in ensuing posts is to unpack PIRR from a macro periodisation to a microweekly programming perspective. Stay tuned.
