Athlete Health

Just want to follow up on this athlete fit but unhealthy focus, and ask you these questions?

How good is your exercise prescription? How good is your rest and recovery prescription?

Many of us would score top marks for exercise prescription but not so well on helping the athlete or client plan for possibly the most important part of the puzzle, what the athlete does for the next 0-24 hours to optimise the adaptation they are seeking. I liked Brian White’s spin on this when he stated that the exercise professional, “should primarily be managing the inherent fatigue to maximise the potential for the intended results to be realised.”

To finish off with a comment from Joe Dolcetti I liked. “The pursuit of physical excellence, at an amateur or elite level is not necessarily a health endeavour. And we as practitioners need to be aware of this, find recuperative and recovery protocols that balance the extreme nature of these pursuits and continue to educate the sport, health and fitness world that more is not always better.”

In rest and sleep the magic happens.
